An austere and cold bunker with a contemporary building of glass on the top in Mitte, the central borough of Berlin. This is the new baby of the famous publicist and contemporary art collector Christain Boros. The bunker was constructed in reinforced concrete in 1942 during the second world war, for the German railway company.
In 2003, Christain Boros bought the bunker and commissioned Realarchitektur to design a place for him, his family and his huge collection of around 500 art works including pieces from Damien Hirst, Olafur Eliasson, Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, Wolfang Tillmans, Anselm Reyle and Kris Martin.
An incredible place for contemporary art but unfortunaly not for culture democratisation. The bunker is still a bunker and is neerly closed to the public. We were in Berlin one month ago and after few meters inside the bunker, the welcome team explained us that few months of reservation was necessary to visit... A beautiful private collection and above all a master marketing asset in the competition face to Pinault.
